Welcome to the Alt.AIS,
where things are just easier...

AltAIS is NOT associated with, or approved by, any official body. The CAA, NATS and AIS would probably have a cow if they knew what was going on here... (they do know, and no cows have been left on my doorstep yet, so it can't be that bad!)

19 Mar 07: AltAIS Gets Plug in GASCo

Eeek! Wasn't expecting that. Welcome to anyone checking out this website for the first time as a result of seeing the short note in GASCo Flight Safety Magazine. The AltAIS project has been running since NATS introduced the original (and unfriendly) AIS PIB tool. Thanks to the hard work of a few individuals (Mike Cross et al) that website was rapidly improved, and slowly more 3rd Party tools have been developed by various people and organisations to provide graphical briefings too. However, it seams the need for a basic tool such as AltAIS still exists (as the log files from last year show), particularly as more people are able to connect to the internet via mobile phones - devices that aren't capable of handling the AIS website or other tools, or are running on pay-per-megabyte networks that make accessing those websites rather expensive.

If you are (or become) a regular user, I would be very grateful if you could drop me a line and let me know how and why you use the AltAIS website - and of course, if you think there is anything that I could do to improve the system.

19 Mar 07: AltAIS Achieves over 22,000 hits in 2006.

Prompted by recent publicity, another annual trawl through my logfiles (and removing all the obvious search engines), I was surprised to find that AltAIS has grown in usage yet again - despite the vast improvement in both the NATS AIS website since AltAIS birth, and the array of powerful Notam plotting tools available as desktop software and web applications alike. Once again, thank you for visiting - All 22,808 page-hits!
